About Us and Cruising for a Cure

2004 started out as a fairly normal year, Anne had purchased her 2002 PT Cruiser used in 2003 and managed to talk a good friend of hers into painting flames on it in April 2004. The Year progressed and family illness and crises ended up starting mid year and would also flow into 2005.

Tim lost one of his Cousins Renee Willis Anthony to Ovarian Cancer, at a young age early forties. Then towards the end of the year his wife Anne was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer at 39. Anne was treated with Radioactive Iodine for her Thyroid Cancer in January 2005. Since then Anne has been tested and or scanned for re-occurrences every six months to one year.

After spending 2005 in a denial phase, Anne decided to attend her first Relay for Life Event so In May of 2006 we attended our first Relay for Life Event as Survivor and Caregiver. We both realized we needed to do more for The American Cancer Society and Relay for .Life. So with the help of Renee’s sister (another cousin of Tim’s) Chris Smith at Peoples Bank NC in Lincolnton and our PT Cruiser club; The Carolina PT Cruisers. We planned and held our first event in April 2007.

For the first three years we kept it small, PT Cruisers Only and held it in the Peoples Bank NC Parking lot on Main Street in Lincolnton. We averaged over the three years about 30 PT Cruisers and about $1200 in revenue for The American Cancer Society and Relay for Life in Lincoln County.

This year we managed to find a larger venue thanks to the fine folks at Lincolnton High School and the Lincoln County School Board, and have opened it up to anyone who would like to join us. This being an Open show is like stated anyone who wants to pay the Donation /Registration fee is welcome to join in. Cars, Trucks, Motorcycles, and Car Clubs, the more the merrier. We will still have Cousin Chris Smith and her fine folks from Peoples Bank NC present to make food for our guests. All the money as in the past also goes to Relay for Life for the lunches they sell.

As far as Anne’s health: Well I’ve reached the six year mark and still going strong. I refuse to be in denial and help with Relay for Life in both Lincolnton’s Relay for Life event and East Lincoln’s Relay for Life Event. I also help with the Thyroid Cancer Survivors Group; www.thyca.org and I still love my PT Cruiser so much I bought a convertible last year. Without the love of my Husband Tim and all my great friends and my Peeps (my Best Girlfriends) I would not be where I am now. So Help me help others to keep celebrating Birthdays.
